We would have enjoyed this exhibit at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris. Despite the devestation visited on France throughout World War I, the military was still viewed as an opportunity for glory when this poster was printed in 1935, but there was nothing glorious about France's  military future. Just one year later the Germans occupied the disputed Rhineland and the French did nothing to stop them: they couldn't. The entire French army didn't have one division capable of offensive in 1936. At that time Hitler dicided to call Frances' bluff and it worked. Saddlebag below victorious standards is inscribed 1610 (Marie de Medici) to 1814 (Napoleon). 23x15 Near mint, conservation backed.
