Christy, Howard Chandler Aviation Fly with the U.S.Marines 1920. Great great poster from the personal collection of Howard Chandler Christy, acquired from his granddaughter, who inherited his Pennsylvania studio.  Gripping the leading edge of an American eagle’s wings, a Marine is pictured taking a trip. A DeHaviland-4 fighter-bomber shown diving at the same angle directly below him. One of the rarest posters of World War I. Fly with the U.S. Marines was issued after the war was over in what must have been a very small print run as so few have appeared on the market. The poster is strictly a prestige item. Aviation was cutting edge and romantic and had more volunteers than the service could handle. Howard Chandler Christy, along with James Montgomery Flagg, was arguably the most celebrated poster artist working in America. Fame meets glamour and what looks like fun. 40x30 near mint, conservation backed.
